Roadtripping in Iceland, Part Two

Iceland is spectacularly beautiful– so there was no way I could fit all my road trip photos into one post. So here is part two: photos from the last few days of my road trip in the Westfjords with Annukka. More wild camping, more dinners cooked over campstoves by the seashore, more sunsets, more stunning landscapes. The Westfjords is a spectacular area, but the unpaved mountain roads deter tourists, so most of the time it felt like we had plenty of space to ourselves. I loved taking in the vast natural beauty but I also enjoyed the charming, small remote towns. Everywhere we went, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly Icelanders are. After we finished our time in the Westfjords, we drove back south via the Snæfellsness Peninsula, an equally arresting area, before returning to Reykjavik.

Camping next to an abandoned herring factory in a tiny "town." With no permanent residents left, there are two families that use the remaining houses as summer homes.

This is what fine dinning looks like.
We couldn't have driven any further if we had tried. Our little Pony Mobile could not have made it on the road leading further up the Fjord.

The Rauðisandur Beach ("Red Sands Beach) was not something I expected to find in Iceland.

  1. I didn’t get to this part of Iceland on my recent trip. You’re making me think I should return! We were mostly South & it was so gorgeous. I agree, the people were wonderful.
