Breach, Baby, Breach

Earlier this week, I got to see something pretty incredible: breaching humpbacks and orcas, swimming together in Frederick Sound. For hours we watched whales feeding, spyhopping, pec and tail slapping, swimming, and spouting. All day long, we were surrounded by whales– it was extraordinary.

And then, in the evening, a humpback breached next to our ship…. then breached again… and again…. and again…. 37 more times.

I have never, ever seen anything like it.

When I wasn’t busy breaking my camera equipment, I managed to get some photos:

And as if that wasn’t amazing enough, guess who else showed up….the vagabondist: orcas the vagabondist: breaching orcathe vagabondist: breaching orcathe vagabondist: breaching orca

After the orcas finished showing off, they swam right under our boat.the vagabondist: orcathe vagabondist: orca
