San Carlos de Bariloche

In, February, I spent three weeks in San Carlos de Bariloche, a gorgeous mountain town in Argentina’s Lake District. Bariloche has an incredible amount of activities, all accessible from the city center: kayaking, SUP, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and more. Pro tip: it’s also famous for its chocolate and has incredible ice cream.

If you’re heading to Bariloche, book accommodation early to get into the best places. Check out Trek Bariloche to decide what hikes you want to do and how to get there. I enjoyed the walks to Cerro Llao Llao and Cerro Campanario, and the Sendero de los Arrayanes walk is really lovely and relaxing. The treks out of Los Coihues are very nice and offer the chance to play on Lago Gutierrez.
